RLWC : Round 1 Review


 
 

The World Cup group stage has started last Saturday. 17 Catalans Dragons players have aleardy represented their country.

England produced an impressive performance to beat Samoa 60-6 at St James' Park.

Sam Tomkins, Mike McMeeken and Micky McIlorum were all three in the starting line-up in front of their fans.

With Samoa, Tyrone May had to leave his team early in the second half due to a hip injury. The Dragons player suffers dislocated hip and will miss the rest of the competition.

In the Group A, France made a perfect start with a 34-12 victory over Greece. Benjamin Garcia, Fouad Yaha, Samisoni Langi, Matthieu Laguerre, Arthur Romano, Arthur Mourgue, Paul Séguier, Benjamin Jullien, Jordan Dezaria and Alrix Da Costa where in the starting XIII while Mickael Goudemand et Corentin Le Cam started on the bench.

Jordan Dezaria scored the opening try of the match and scored his first try for his country.

Benjamin Jullien scored a brace and Arthur Mourgue also scored a try during the match.

France and Dragons' captain, Benjamin Garcia, made a stunning performance which earned him the Man of the Match award.

On Tuesday evening, Siosiua Taukeiaho represented Tonga. The future Dragons' prop helped his country to beat Papua New Guinea 24-18 thanks to a last minute try assist.

Dylan Napa was suspended for the Cook Islands' start. Suspended two games for a high tackle in the last match of the season with Dragons against Leeds, he will also miss the second game of the group stage with Cook Islands over Papua New Guinea.
