9 players leave the club

Catalans Dragons can confirm 9 players leave the club.

While the departures of Sam Kasiano, Gil Dudson and Joe Chan have already been confirmed during the season, others have just been made official. 6 other players, who were out of contract at the end of the season, won’t be extended by the club.

Sam Kasiano, who arrived during the 2019 season, quickly became one of the Dragons fans’ favorite players. His performances earned him a spot in the Super League Dream Team last season. The New Zealand prop, who made 83 appearances for the Dragons, will play for Warrington next season.

He will be joined by Gil Dudson who is also moving to Wolves. The Welsh prop, who helped the club to reach the Grand Final at Old Trafford last season, played 39 games for the club in two seasons.

The departure of Joe Chan was also confirmed in April. The young Dragons' forward has signed for NRL club Melbourne Storm. He came through the club development system and made his Super League debut last year. After having scored 8 tries in 29 games, he is ready to discover the NRL at only 20 years-old.

After 5 years spent at the club, Benjamin Jullien won’t be a Dragon next season. After making his Super League debut with Warrington, the French second row joined Catalans in 2018. He won the Challenge Cup during his first season with a try assist to Lewis Tierney for the opening try of the Final. He scored 16 tries in 87 appearances.

Samisoni Langi, who arrived in 2018 like Benjamin Jullien, also leaves the club. The Tongian centre has convinced the Catalan public since he arrived in Perpignan. A real attacking asset for the Dragons over the past 5 years, he scored 26 tries in 107 games. He has been a key player in the Challenge Cup’s run to the Final won at Wembley and has also been decisive last season to help the club reach its first ever Super League Grand Final.

The leaving of Dean Whare has also been confirmed. Arrived at the club last season from Penrith Panthers, the New-Zealand centre has been crucial in the outstanding run to the Final last year.

All three coming through the club academy, Corentin Le Cam, Mathieu Cozza and Romain Franco haven’t been extended by the club. Corentin Le Cam made his debut for the Dragons at St Helens last season and made 11 appearances under the Catalans jersey. Mathieu Cozza played 10 games for the club including 5 Super League appearances in the last two months. Romain Franco has played 7 games for the Dragons. The French winger scored a try in the first Super League game against Hull KR.

Steve McNamara said : "Samisoni and Ben will always be remembered for playing huge parts in the 1st ever trophy winning team in the 2018 challenge cup final. They will always hold that place in our history.

Sam, Dean Gill and Joe all played significant parts in the clubs 1st ever league leaders shield and grand final appearance in 2021 whilst Corentin, Romain and Mathieu have all developed through our system and played important roles within our squad.

They now need to go play regular 1st team football to continue that development. All the players have been a pleasure to work with and we wish them all the best in the future."

The club would like to wish them all the best for the future.
