Dragons to face Leeds in the Challenge Cup Final

 
 

After a stunning display of Wheelchair Rugby League last weekend when RLWC hopefuls England and France clashed in Manchester, attention turns to the Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup final this weekend (Saturday 25 June).

The Allam Arena in Hull is the venue for a mouth-watering game between cup holders Leeds Rhinos and the Catalans Dragons, who this year entered the competition for the very first time and will look to emulate the success of their Men's side who won the Betfred Challenge Cup for the first time in 2018.

After showing both Men's and Women's Betfred Challenge Cup finals this season, BBC will make it three this weekend as the Wheelchair final is broadcast live on the BBC Sport Website from 2.30pm.

It will be an extra-special occasion for one player - England's Seb Bechara, who plays his domestic rugby for the Dragons and will go head-to-head with some of his national side teammates.

Speaking on this week's 5Live Rugby League Podcast, Bechara was asked what he's most looking forward to this weekend: "Wiping the smiles off those Rhinos players… there's always a lot of banter in the England camps!

"I've always boasted about how good Catalans Dragons have been over the last couple of years, and never really been able to prove it - this is finally our chance to come to England and show everyone who we are."

The French played a leading role in the development of Wheelchair Rugby League and 'Les Dracs' secured their place in the final after a comprehensive 34-6 win over Wigan Warriors in the semi-finals. Defending champions Leeds Rhinos recorded a 36-6 victory over Halifax Panthers after winning every game in the round-robin qualifiers.

The action gets underway at the Allam Arena at 11.30am, when Gravesend Dynamite take on Mersey Storm in the Wheelchair RL Trophy Final.
