Matt Whitley signs contract extension

Catalans Dragons back rower Matt Whitley has today signed a two-year contract with the club.

The England Knights International has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will secure his future at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium until the end of the 2022 season.

The 24-year-old back-rower joined the club from the Widnes Vikings in 2019 and has already scored 36 tries in 141 games in his career.

He quickly became a key player in the Catalans’ pack and finished the 2020 season among the best try-scorers with 8 tries in 14 games and an average of 30 tackles per game.

I’m really happy to be re-signing with the Dragons! It’s a club I feel is heading in the right direction and I’m looking forward to being a part of this good group of players and staff for another two years.
After reaching the semi finals in 2020, I’m looking to push on this next upcoming season to win something for this great club.

Steve McNamara, Catalans Dragons headcoach
