Catalans sign Joel Tomkins

Catalans Dragons are pleased to announce the signing of Joel Tomkins on a two-year contract.

The former England international, 32, was the Hull KR’s captain last season.

Joel Tomkins said: “Since playing against the Dragons in their first ever Super League game in 2006, I have always admired the clubs ambition to grow and achieve success. Being given the opportunity to be a part of the Catalans Dragons is a great honour for me and I am determined to do what I can to help the club to achieve success in the coming years.”

Having progressed through the Wigan Youth Development System, Tomkins made his Super League debut in 2008. Named in the Super League Dream Team in 2010, he won the Super League, the Challenge Cup and the League Leader’s Shield with the Cherry and Whites and also his first caps with England.

A former England international in both rugby league and union, Tomkins has racked up over 250 first team games during his two spells for the Warriors and also played for Saracens after switching codes from 2011 to 2014.

He joined Hull KR in 2018 and was appointed captain last season.

Catalans Dragons headcoach Steve McNamara said: “Joel is an experienced, hardened competitor who plays and trains to win. He will add great value to all within our organisation and I personally look forward to working with him again after previously coaching him for England.”
