Wakefield Trinity maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 16-14 win over Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.

Catalans, who welcomed back Tony Gigot following an almost year-long suspension, fell behind in the 16th minute through Reece Lyne’s try.

But Benjamin Garcia crossed to level with Lucas Albert adding the extras before he extended Catalans’ lead with a penalty on the half-hour.

Tom Johnstone raced away to go over in the corner to level the scores, with Liam Finn again missing the conversion attempt only for Albert’s penalty to hand Catalans a 10-8 half-time advantage.

Tonga international David Fifita’s try put Wakefield back in front with Finn’s conversion taking him to 500 points in the competition.

Finn added a further penalty to extend his side’s lead to six points but Catalans set up a grandstand finish when Lewis Tierney went over although Albert was unable to tie the game with his conversion kick from the touchline.
