A man-of-the-match performance on his Betfred Super League debut by Australian Jake Mamo was not enough to prevent Huddersfield Giants crashing to a 29-22 home defeat by Catalans Dragons.

Aaron Murphy scored the opening try for Huddersfield, with Danny Brough adding the extras, but that was cancelled out by Tony Gigot's effort soon after and a successful conversion attempt by Luke Walsh.

Mamo crossed for the hosts five minutes before the interval but Catalans struck on the stroke of half-time, Brayden Wiliame touching down and Walsh made no mistake with the conversion.

The visitors went further ahead thanks to the Richie Myler-Walsh combination and the latter added the extras to Vincent Duport's try after Brough was sin-binned for dissent.

Walsh went over for the Dragons before Huddersfield hit back with a converted try by Jermaine McGillvary. Gigot kicked a drop-goal four minutes from time and Catalans held on despite a late effort from Sam Wood.
