Catalans Dragons ended a run of five games without a win with a 37-26 success over Leigh Centurions at the Sports Village.

Full-back Tony Gigot scored a try on his first appearance of the season following suspension as the Dragons leapfrogged their hosts to move into eighth place in the Betfred Super League table.

In the first-ever top-flight clash between the two sides, Ben Reynolds kicked an early penalty for Leigh before the visitors raced in 28 unanswered points in a 16 minute period to put them in firm control.

Iain Thornley, Brayden Wiliame, Krisnan Inu, Louis Anderson and Richie Myler all crossed the whitewash for Catalans before Curtis Naughton's converted try reduced the deficit to 28-8 at the interval.

Dayne Weston, Greg McNally and Sam Hopkins touched down in vain for the Centurions, with Reynolds kicking 10 points, as Gigot scored on his re-appearance and Luke Walsh finishing the match with a drop goal following his six-goal performance

Dragons head coach Laurent Frayssinous hailed his team's performance but bemoaned injuries to key players.

He said: "The first half was very good offensively and defensively. We were clinical with the ball and defensively we showed the right attitude. It was a pretty good performance.

"But on the negative side, Luke Burgess looks to have suffered a knee injury which doesn't look good. Also Jason Baitieri has already got a plaster on his wrist and it looks like it's broken.

"It was a tough game and hopefully we will have some troops back for next week. It was good to have Tony Gigot back - he is a great player and he will get better and better.
