Pat Richards and Dave Taylor missed late openings as Wakefield Trinity Wildcats moved into sixth place in the First Utility Super League table with a 30-28 win over Catalans Dragons.

The Wildcats took the lead in the eighth minute, a scrum play following a decision by referee Chris Campbell seeing Max Jowitt race over from 20 metres out before Liam Finn converted.

Catalans were level on 18 minutes as the new half-back combination of Lucas Albert and Tony Gigot combined for the latter to touch down to the right of the posts, with Richards adding the extras.Six minutes later Catalans took the lead. A solo effort from Taylor saw the former Australia international break free and score to the left of the posts, before Justin Horo raced clear after throwing a dummy to create a 12-point gap.

Jonny Malloy pulled one back for the visitors, before Craig Hall dived on a loose ball and Finn converted to bring the scores level. Bill Tupou scored a superb solo try after the break, but the Dragons hit back immediately through Morgan Escare out wide.

Both teams had chances as the tension mounted late on, but Michael Sio scored under the posts for Finn to add what was the decisive conversion, shortly before Fouad Yaha gave Richards the chance to save the game, only for his conversion to miss the posts and give Wakefield the win.
