Pedalling to Perpignan for Prostate Cancer UK

Six Rugby League supporting friends wanted to find an unusual way to combine their love of the game, and to raise money for charity, by planning an 800 mile bike ride from London to Perpignan, to coincide with Catalans Dragons' Super League fixture against Huddersfield Giants.

They set off from London on Wednesday, 8th July, on a ten day cycle ride which will take them via Newhaven, through Dieppe, Le Mans, Limoges, Brive, Toulouse and Carcassonne, arriving at Stade Gilbert Brutus in good time for kick off this Saturday.

Father and daughter Graham and Claire Duguid originally hail from Huddersfield, and are very excited about seeing their team play in the South of France. Organiser of the ride, Andy Preston, has visited Perpignan several times in previous seasons, though he's usually travelled by train or plane for the weekend to watch the Dragons in action.

The six riders have been helped by Chairman and Head Coach of Southend Spartans Rugby League club, Steve Drew, who is driving a support vehicle, stocked with bicycle spares, food & nutrition and spare clothes. It will be Steve's first experience of a Dragons matchday, and he's looking forward to sampling the super charged atmosphere at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

The group of riders are raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, a cause close to the hearts of many of them. If you are inspired by the riders and their efforts, please click on their fundraising page via http://pedallingtoperp.blogspot.co.uk/ to read more about their trip.
