Tyra Wetere joins the Women's Team
The Dragons’ Women’s Team confirms the signing of Tyra Wetere.
Fullback or winger, Tyra Wetere has just signed a two-year contract (2025-2026) with the New Zealand Warriors in the NRLW. The New Zealand club has agreed to release her during her stay in France.
Born in Taupō, the 1.70m, 69kg player lived in Sydney until the age of seven before her family settled in the Bay of Plenty region (New Zealand). Initially trained in rugby union – where she was named U18 Player of the Year – Tyra later switched to rugby league. Her talent quickly stood out: the Warriors offered her a two-year NRLW contract.
With 4 tries in 5 matches for the Warriors, Tyra has already established herself as a great finisher. A skilful, fast, and defensively solid player, she represents the future of women’s rugby league in New Zealand.
The words of the Presidents (Rémi Delherbe and Geoffrey Reiser): “Welcoming Tyra marks a historic step for our women’s team. Her arrival enhances the elite championship and highlights the tremendous commitment of our coaches and management.”
