Jodie Broughton scored a hat-trick of tries as Catalans Dragons overcame a spirited and stubborn Whitehaven 56-10 to progress to the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

Mickael Goudemand had a debut to remember as he registered a brace of tries against the League 1 outfit.

Broughton opened the scoring with a brace within four minutes before Michael McIlorum claimed his first try of the season to extend the hosts' lead - but Josh Drinkwater failed with his three attempts on goal.

In reply Jesse-Joe Parker charged over the top to score down the left edge and Dan Abram added the conversion.

The visitors reduced the deficit even more as David Thompson dived over in the corner and Abram converted.

Drinkwater and Goudemand both touched down from short range before the break with Drinkwater adding two goals.

Antoni Maria extended the Catalans' lead eight minute into the second half and - on the hour - Tony Gigot sent Julian Bousquet over from short range before Mickael Goudemand scored his second of the day as Drinkwater added the extras.

Broughton seal his hat-trick with 13 minutes remaining before Vincent Duport and Tony Gigot added a try apiece.
