A season of change for the reserve

On the eve of the 2016/17 French Elite Championship season, the club has made a lot of changes in the reserve team.

Jérôme Guisset has been named Catalans Dragons reserve team headcoach. He will remain as Laurent Frayssinous' assistant coach and will combine both roles.

Reserve team chairman Gérard Caillis commented: "We continue our efforts to develop our youth and development systems. The choice to name Jérôme as the new head coach was obvious. He has been an assistant coach in Super League for six years now and he knows the club well. He works with Laurent Frayssinous every day and will be the ideal link between the reserve and the professional squad. "

Guisset, who made 125 Super League appearances in the Catalans jersey, joined the coaching staff in 2011 when he retired from playing.

Jérôme Guisset said: “I’m delighted that the club has given me this role, it’s a great opportunity for me and a new challenge. It’s an exciting project for the players, the club, for me obviously and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

“The club has built an attractive and visionary project for the reserve team, which this year becomes the U23 category. After the creation of U19, the club continues to improve the development system and the U23 team gives more credibility to the overall project. Even if the U19 team has managed to produce some Super League players, the U23 team must help others to continue their progression and to develop into Super League players. We have a very young squad, but these players are competitors and are aware of the hard work that awaits them. I'm sure they will be competitive this season."

The staff has announced a renewed squad for the new season. The staff has chosen to keep some senior players as Joan Guasch, Joseph Negre, Alexis Meresta-Doucet, Nabil Djalout or Thomas Ambert, while the remainder of the playing squad has been rejuvenated with the arrival of 11 players for the U19 playing group.

Mathias Pala is also back at the club after his stint at Leigh.
