Catalans Dragons moved level on points with First Utility Super League leaders Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors with a close fought 42-32 victory over Salford Red Devils.

Jodie Broughton and Richie Myler both scored twice against their former employers as the Dragons secured a seventh consecutive victory, with Junior Sa'u's hat-trick proving in vain for the visitors.

Salford were in the game for large parts, moving 20-16 ahead in the 50th minute, but Catalans responded by scoring 18 points in quick succession to build a cushion that they preserved despite a late fightback from the Red Devils.

The game swung one way and then the other during an opening half that saw Catalans move 16-14 ahead.

Broughton cancelled out Niall Evalds' third-minute opener before a Justin Carney try and a Gareth O'Brien penalty edged Salford 10-4 ahead, but Morgan Escare's converted try levelled the scores in the 19th minute.

Sa'u scored his first from close range and, after Vincent Duport crossed following a fine Broughton interception and run, the centre went over again to put Salford four points in front early in the second half.

But Catalans roared into a 34-20 lead courtesy of Myler's double, Broughton's 13th of the season and a Pat Richards penalty.

Sa'u and Evalds moved Salford to within two points only for a converted Richards try and a penalty to make sure of the two points for the hosts.
