Catalans Dragons moved into sixth position in First Utility Super League with a 58-16 win over Wigan Warriors in Perpignan.

Todd Carney returned to the starting line-up to play a pivotal role for the hosts as they capitalised on Castleford's loss on Thursday to move ahead of the Tigers.

Zeb Taia and Tony Gigot scored hat-tricks as Catalans made easy work of Wigan, running as they ran in 10 tries to almost erase their minus 46 points difference, while Scott Dureau kicked nine goals from 10 attempts to register eighteen points.

Wigan took the lead with Josh Charnley scoring in the seventh minute. Matty Smith added the conversion and that was as good as it got for the visitors.

Catalans were level two minutes later, a Michael McIlorum error gifting possession to the home side and Carney and Willie Tonga combined to send in Fouad Yaha in at the corner. Dureau added the conversion to level the scores.

On the quarter hour mark, Gigot scored his first try since returning to the club two weeks ago, bouncing off Dan Sarginson to score. Dureau missed the conversion, his only inaccurate attempt of the evening.

The Catalans scored again on 26 minutes, Carney sending Taia over for his first try down the left, with Dureau goaling.

Taulima Tautai collected the re-start that held up in the wind and from that field position Matty Bowen sent Dan Sarginson over down the Wigan left.

With seven minutes to half-time, Taia scored his second as he followed up a Dureau kick that was not dealt with by Charnley.

Wide Carney passes created second tries for Gigot and Yaha as the Dragons ran riot before half-time, Dureau adding the extras on each occasion to take the score at the break to 34-10.

Both sides traded tries after the break, Joe Burgess scoring for Wigan before Michael Oldfield scored for the Catalans as the score raced to 40-16 with 30 mins remaining.

On the hour Taia scored his hat-trick try after good work by Elliott Whitehead before Morgan Escare added a superb solo effort, beating the entire Wigan side to the ball before touching down. Dureau added both goals.

Gigot completed his hat-trick after neat work by Whitehead down the right. Dureau added the touchline conversion to seal an emphatic win.
