Lucas Albert leaves the club

Catalans Dragons can confirm Lucas Albert is leaving the club. The young international halfback has not been offered a new deal and has joined Carcassonne in the French Elite 1 Championship.

He made his Super League debut for Catalans in 2015 and is still the youngest Catalans players to have played in Super League (17 years old and 8 days). Named Rookie of the year in 2017, he made 50 Super League appearances, scoring 6 tries and 66 points.

Albert, 22, is leaving the Dragons after 6 seasons at the club.

I spent six great seasons at the club. I would like to thank everyone for their support during my time at the Dragons. Despite a difficult season, I’m leaving on good terms.

I don't see this as the 'end' for Lucas more of a new opportunity. He has been with the club since the age of 16 and the change of environment will reignite his love for the game. It has been a very hard year for many of our players without the ability to play games and Lucas more than anybody given the position he plays needs to play games. He will do this with Carcassonne and we will monitor his form and progression before deciding what lies in the future for him. Lucas tried so hard during 2020. His attitude, effort and physical condition improved immensely and if he continues in this way he will give himself every chance of being successful.
