Deeply rooted in the Department of Pyrénées Orientales, rugby league is a part of Catalan culture

It is a sport which requires and also develops qualities of anticipation, courage and competition.

It calls upon group spirit, respect and good behaviour and as such is an ideal complement to the education of our youth.

The sport had its glory days in the 40s and 50s. The Jean Laffon stadium, that temple of rugby league, filled to the brim, vibrating with the exploits of the French Catalans who, one evening in January 1948, were alone victorious against the world champions, Australia.

A sport which has also had its difficult times but which has always been able to rise again thanks to hundreds of players and officials working together.

Catalan rugby league has supplied many players, and captains courageous, to the French national team, and has counted in its ranks the best back of all times and in the whole world.

Today, with the resurgence of rugby league, it is only reasonable that, in the best rugby championship of Europe, the only French team is Catalan.
